A Year of Living on My Terms

This month marks my one-year anniversary of leaving my corporate career to design and live a life on my terms

It was a big decision, and I was shit scared at first. I felt like I was being irresponsible by leaving without knowing what was next. But then I realized that I was not alone. Many people would love to take some time out to figure out what's important to them, spend time on their personal growth, identify and rewrite limiting beliefs, and find a career they love. Why couldn't I do that?

I knew that staying in a job and career that no longer served me was a waste of my life. It was draining me, and it didn't allow me to utilize my gifts or live my life with balance and prioritize my family, particularly my growing daughter ❤️

So I took the plunge, and it was the best thing I've ever done. It hasn't been smooth sailing all the time, but growth is hard. The biggest learning for me is that we learn from the hard bits. There's not much to learn from a smooth ride. It's the bumps that give us the ups and downs, the vibrancy of life. And who knows, maybe that little bit of sand that makes the path rough is there so you don't slip and fall.

Now, I get to dial up or dial down depending on what's going on in our lives as a family. I get to work in my garden or anywhere really, and best of all, I get to work with amazing clients and see their growth and witness them making empowered life choices, from a place of grounded self-knowledge and self-acceptance.

I do miss my colleagues and the general interaction you get working in an organization. But now I can make time to have meaningful connections with people who are on a similar journey, my tribe ✨ I have met so many wonderful human beings who also happen to be coaches, and change agents here to help other human beings see what's possible for them and live in their greatness.

A year on, looking back on what I wanted from life, I have about 80% of the life I dreamed of. And that's a pretty good place to be. I took the plunge. It was scary. It was hard. But otherwise, are we just staying still?

What could be available for you on the other side if you take the plunge? ☀️

🌻The scoop:

Here are some of the things I've learned in the past year:

  • It's okay to be scared. But don't let fear stop you from taking action.

  • The only way to know what you want is to try new things.

  • Don't be afraid to fail. Failure is a part of the learning process.

  • Surround yourself with positive people who support your dreams.

  • Be patient and persistent. It takes time to build a new life.

I hope this post has inspired you to design a life that you love. Remember, it's never too late to start over.
